Volunteer Positions

The Barrie Dragon Boat Festival offers a variety of opportunities for individuals to get involved! We have many positions spanning over the festival weekend and welcome all applications from interested individuals who are 14 years of age or older. Students are welcome to apply and community involvement hours can be credited.

Our volunteers are what continue to make this community event a yearly success, below is an outline of this year’s volunteer positions.

Please note: Every volunteer must sign a waiver and all new volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation. This VIRTUAL meeting is being held from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Wednesday July 27th, 2022. A meeting link will be sent to all volunteers 1 week prior to the orientation.

Review the following list of possible volunteer positions. Click the link above to apply online and share with us your preferred role.

  • Dock Marshall – Assist paddlers in and out of dragon boats
  • General Festival Assistant – Fill in where we need you most
  • Green Team Member – Help keep the festival grounds clean
  • Hydration Station Attendant – Assist paddlers fill their water bottles
  • Parking Crew – Control access to our limited parking area
  • Photographer – Capture the day and share your photos
  • Results Recorder – Assist festival staff keep track of race winners
  • Results Runner – Run results from the festival officiants to festival staff
  • Site Crew – Assist with site set-up and tear down
  • Team Marshall – Ensure teams are organized prior to their races
  • Team Registration – Help to register teams on festival morning
  • Volunteer Administration – Help to oversee volunteer activities

Volunteer Requirements

  • All volunteers must be fully vaccinated (at least 2 doses) against COVID-19.
  • New volunteers are required to attend the Virtual Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday July 27th from 6:30pm-7:30pm or contact the Coordinator, Volunteer Resources to make alternate arrangements.
  • A Volunteer Waiver must be completed and signed prior to the festival
  • Volunteers must be 14 years of age and up
  • All volunteers will work in compliance with the Health and Safety Act
  • Volunteers must sign-in at the Volunteer Administration Tent a minimum of 15 minutes before their shift begins
